Do I Need Planning Permission?
If you’ve decided to undertake a major project the chances are that you’ll need
planning permission before you start. As a general rule, smaller changes that only affect the inside of the house usually ok whereas, large projects, such as extensions, big conservatories and loft conversions with dormer windows will need planning permission.
There are exceptions to this general rule. You should always check out what changes you can and can’t make without permission.

local authority which will have a building control department to provide advice and oversee the work you’re doing.
